Nemschoff Cleaning & Maintenance Guide

Maintenance of Nemschoff Healthcare Finish: (proprietary polyurethane coating)

To maintain the appearance and integrity of the coating, clean with a damp cloth or mild detergent solution.  Avoid chemical and/or abrasive cleaning compounds.  Full strength or diluted glass cleaner products work well as they will not leave deposits that can cause smearing or haze on the surface.  Nemschoff Healthcare Finishes have been tested with many common cleaner/disinfectants used by our customers, including: Bleach, HI-Tor plus, Sani master, Ammonia, Sursan, Matar, and Tor HB.  The coating has excellent resistance to these cleaners when used in accordance to the manufacturer's instructions.

Brand name furniture polishes can be used and will not damage the surface, but are likely to cause smearing and haze and are therefore not recommended.  Products free of wax and silicones give the best long-term results and will not create problems should the surface require refinishing or repair at a future date.

Maintenance of Fabric:

To maintain the appearance and integrity of the fabric, refer to the Nemschoff Fabric Cards or the supplier's specific instructions.

Maintenance of Laminate Surfaces:

To maintain the appearance and integrity of laminate, clean with a damp cloth or mild detergent solution and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaning compounds.  It is important that after cleaning, the laminate surface is rinsed with warm water using a clean damp cloth and then wiped with a clean dry cloth.  This step prevents the buildup of cleaning agent on the laminate surface.  Residual cleaning agent can be reactivated with any moisture and can damage the decorative surface.

Maintenance of COBAR® Surfaces: (proprietary powder coating)

To maintain the appearance and integrity of COBAR® surfaces, clean with a damp cloth or mild detergent solution and avoid chemical or abrasive cleaning compounds.  After cleaning, the COBAR® surface should be rinsed with warm water using a clean damp cloth and wiped with a clean dry cloth to avoid cleaning agent build-up.

Maintenance of bassinet plastic insert

Wash the bassinet insert with a solution of mild soap or detergent and mild water.  Use a clean soft cloth, applying only light pressure.  Rinse with clean water and dry by blotting with a damp cloth or chamois.

Grease, oil or tar may be removed with a good grade of hexane, aliphatic naphtha or kerosene.  These solvents may be obtained at a paint or hardware store and should be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.

Do not use:  window cleaning sprays, kitchen scouring compounds or solvents such as acetone, gasoline, benzene, alcohol, carbon tetrachloride or lacquer thinner.  These can scratch the surface and/or weaken the insert, causing small surface cracks.

Dust with a soft, damp cloth or chamois.  Dry or gritty cloths may cause surface scratches and create a static electric charge on the surface.  Protect your insert and maintain its surface gloss by occasional polishing with a good plastic cleaner and polish.  Apply a thin, even coat with a soft clean cloth and polish slightly with cotton flannel.  Then wipe with a damp cloth to help eliminate electrostatic charges that can attract dust particles.
