St. John's Mercy Medical Center
St. John’s Mercy Medical Center is a 979-bed facility located in metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri. To meet the community’s growing need for advanced heart care, St. John’s recently opened a state-of-the-art, nine-level heart hospital featuring 96 private patient rooms, as well as accommodations for family members. The St. John’s Mercy Heart Hospital is the first facility in the region devoted exclusively to heart and vascular care.
The new 340,000 square-foot heart hospital features a Level I Trauma Center with separate ambulance and walk-in entrances on the first floor. The top two floors are reserved for private practice physician offices, while flexible acuity rooms occupy the middle floors.
Grace Corbin, from the architectural and design consulting firm, Christner, Inc., stated, "Our entire team at Christner worked very closely with St. John’s staff and administration to create a healing environment that truly responds to patient, family and staff needs. Every selection of finish, lighting and furniture was made to reinforce a positive patient experience while being easily maintained by the staff."
An important theme in the design and construction of this new facility was to create a comfortable healing environment for patients. To reach this overall design goal, St. John’s worked closely with Nemschoff and Modern Business Interiors as its dealer to create a healing atmosphere throughout. Michele Gramelspacher, Manager of Public Relations at St. John’s, commented, "We were confident in the role Nemschoff played in the design and completion of this facility. The clean lines and comfort level of this furniture are important elements in the healing environment that we are creating for our patients."

All patient rooms are standardized with a SleepOver® Flop® Sofa and Karisma Wallsaver Recliner. Torii and Cities® Uptown lounge seating solutions were selected for use in all public areas with Marsack II featured in the emergency waiting area. The main entrance allows visual connection to three levels and conveys a sense of warmth and light expressive of the patient-focused mission. This public lobby features Riva lounge seating.
