Comfortable vs. clinical reflects a "patient-centered care philosophy."






Northfield Hospital

Northfield Hospital Northfield, Minnesota Northfield Hospital, located in southeastern Minnesota, is a 37-bed hospital that serves approximately 50,000 area residents. The 125,000 square foot building opened its doors in May 2003 and is the beginning of an integrated healthcare campus. The state-of-the-art facility provides a wide range of healthcare services and includes a 40-bed long-term care center.

When the design process for the new facility began, representatives from the hospital staff were invited to a retreat where they could reflect on the elements of the environment that were important to them. They determined that they wanted a rural setting with natural views from all of the windows and warm, natural colors and tones for interior materials. They also wanted the new hospital to reflect their philosophy of patient-centered care. HGA, the project architects, took these desires to heart and designed an atmosphere that alleviates patient stress. Each room is filled with natural light and every bed has tranquil views of the rural setting.

After visiting numerous showrooms and evaluating the comfort and aesthetics of a variety of products, Rand Liedl, HGA Interior Architecture, chose Nemschoff to provide furniture that would complement the hospital's serene landscape. Liedl says, "I recommended Nemschoff because I knew that their quality products would give Northfield a look that is comfortable versus clinical. They were also able to provide one style for use throughout the facility - from waiting areas in the acute wing and senior living wing to all of the patient rooms."
