Morton Plant Hospital
Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida has
been serving the community for almost a
century. This hospital has earned national
recognition as being one of the most effective
hospitals in the country. This 687 bed community-owned hospital provides a full range of medical
surgical services.
When Morton Plant Hospital decided to renovate
its seventh floor, the facility worked with Mason
Blau Architects and Emian Design group to create
28 upscale rooms for postpartum care. These
rooms will eventually be converted to VIP
Medical/Surgical rooms so a flexible design was
needed. "We wanted our customers to not think
they were in a hospital," said Jerry Yates,
Manager of Construction Projects.
The project team envisioned rooms that would
take advantage of the hospital's setting overlooking
the intercoastal waterway. They decided to place
the beds at an angle so that patients would have
the best views of the water, however, this meant
creating a corner headwall unit.
The designer and the furniture representative on
the project were familiar with Nemschoff and
knew that Nemschoff could provide the functionality
and design the hospital wanted. "Nemschoff was
able to satisfy our unique needs for a custom
headwall unit. We were impressed with their
flexibility and attention to detail. They really were
a rich resource throughout the planning and
development stages," added Yates.
In addition to the headwall unit, Nemschoff
designed a bassinet and crown molding to
complement the headwall
unit, giving the entire room
one seamless design.
Other products used
throughout the project
include the EZ 123 overbed
table, the SleepOver®
123,
Cities® Gliders, and Cities®
Lounge Seating, all
creating an environment
that provides comfort and
peace-of-mind.
Nemschoff worked within the "team" setting that
Morton Plant uses for construction projects,
listening to the customer and exceeding
expectations. Nemschoff has continued to follow
up with the nursing staff, asking, "What could we
do better?"
