Condell Medical Center
Condell Medical Center is a 233-bed acute care
facility located in a northern Chicago suburb. As
the population around Libertyville grows and the
demographics change, Condell is expanding to
meet the changing needs of its surroundings.
Recently, Condell Medical Center completed
a 31,000 square foot New Life Maternity
Center that has eight labor/delivery rooms, 19
postpartum rooms and a large family waiting
room. This new facility
expects to deliver 2,250
babies in 2003, and is
designed around stateof-
the-art technology and
efficiencies.
Although Condell wanted
an upscale hospitality
environment for the New
Life Maternity Center,
it had to function like a
hospital. "We wanted
to create a facility that
would be just as inviting
as a high-end hotel
downtown," stated Pat
Keegan, executive vice
president.
Susan Salvati of Pratt Design Studio and the Condell project team looked to Nemschoff to
create custom casegoods and seating products
that look permanent, but are not actually
anchored to the walls or floor.
Each room contains a custom TV armoire,
two small custom cabinets and a custom
SleepOver® Sofa.
"Nemschoff listened to what we needed and
constructed the cabinetry and sofa in such a
way that it looks built-in, but it can actually be
pulled away from the walls for cleaning and easy
access to mechanical components," said Susan
Salvati. She added, "We were familiar with
Nemschoff’s high quality
and custom capabilities,
and knew that they were
really our only option to
accomplish our goal."
Additionally, each room
is furnished with two
Nemschoff Marco chairs
and a Cities® table.
"Our patients and staff
are extremely pleased by
their surroundings and the
nurses have commented
on how much they like
the furniture. We are
confident that our rooms
will continue to look good
for many years to come
- even if we have to take
advantage of Nemschoff's lifetime warranty,"
commented Keegan.
