Swedish Covenant
Located on Chicago's north side, Swedish Covenant has been serving the needs of area residents for more than 120 years.
With a focus on compassion, Swedish Covenant has created a wide range of services to promote healthy lifestyles.
The Weight Management Institute offers a truly multidisciplinary approach for obesity treatment, including medical,
behavioral and surgical options. The Weight Management Institute coordinates these services and hosts individual and
group behavioral therapy sessions.
The Weight Management Institute is housed in a renovated space that was designed specifically for the program's needs.
The project team wanted to create a welcoming, soothing and calming environment. "Many of the obesity programs in Chicago
do not have bariatric accommodations. We wanted to make sure that our clients would feel comfortable and welcome at
The Weight Management Institute," commented John P. Anderson, Ph.D., Program Coordinator.
Due to space constraints, it was important that the furniture did not overpower the area, but yet it had to accommodate the size
and weight requirements of The Weight Management Institute's clients. "We were faced with a tough challenge," stated Craig Cathcart, Project Director,
"fortunately, Nemschoff offers bariatric furniture that does not look like it is 'special' or different."
Mary Byrne, Director of Materials Management, and the project team specified Nemschoff Cities® Uptown Bariatric with 30-inch seat
widths and 40-inch seat widths for use throughout the space. Nemschoff Cities® tables complement the
overall design. "Nemschoff is one of the only companies offering bariatric furniture, and it is the only one with
the style and quick turn-around time we were looking for," stated Byrne. "Our clients and our staff members are very happy with our Nemschoff
furniture. It is beautifully designed and meets all of our needs."
